The Yangs’ Story

Philip and Serena - opening Yang's 2.jpg

march 1994 to the present

March 1, 1994, Wednesday--the humble opening of Yang's Teriyaki on the bottom floor of a blue apartment building right off the campus of Western Oregon University in the small town of Monmouth, Oregon.  That first day, Philip and Serena Yang, the entrepreneurs behind the enterprise (and the developers of our sauce's secret recipe), sold 99 meals. There was only one meal size back then, and paying with cash was the only option.

Since then, a few things have changed. Sales have gone up. We've moved next door to the building we're currently in. We're no longer a cash-only operation. Now, we have two meal sizes and have added cabbage and noodles to our menu.

But beyond that, not much is different. Yang's remains a family business dedicated to providing fresh food and ensuring fast, friendly service. We're always grateful for our customers and their support and do our best to give back: not only by daily serving food, but by being part of the community--whether that means catering and cheering for WOU athletic teams or watching the annual Independence Day parade outside the restaurant with the rest of the town.
